Venners

“Oh I bet half of them got veneers!” exclaims your friend while you watch the biggest stars walk the red carpet at this year’s Oscar’s ceremony. Do you keep hearing about Veneers but don’t have the slightest clue to what they actually are?

Veneers are essentially thin coverings that are bonded over the font (or visible) part of one’s teeth. They help provide a greater esthetic and all-natural look to one’s dentition. Dental physicians conservatively remove a thin layer of the tooth’s enamel, an impression is taken and sent to the lab who will manufacture your newly set of shiny pearly whites.

As they appear as naturally looking teeth, veneers can help solve a variety of issues including chipped/fractured teeth and intrinsically stained teeth. Such intrinsic stains may arise from a necrotic tooth (a tooth whose nerve is dead), medication staining (the common one being tetracycline) or developmental disorders. Since these stains are not on the outer layer (or enamel) of the tooth, traditional whitening methods will not solve the issue while veneers can.

Veneers are also commonly used to resolve misshapen teeth and spacing issues. Are you self-conscious about a gap between your teeth? Maybe your teeth are a little crooked and contorted. Veneers can help repair these issues as well as the dentist can design and fabricate veneers that will cover that gap or straighten any misshapen teeth.

Veneers can be fabricated out of two different materials: porcelain or resin-composite based. Porcelain veneers are strong, long-lasting, have a natural-looking esthetic, and don’t stain easily (this is why porcelain-based veneers are the more common material utilized).

As always, patients leave the Shine DDS office consistently satisfied and excited to show off their new smile. For more information regarding veneer options and how you can book your own personal consultation for veneers, be sure to contact ShineDDs.
